« Media Center of the Week | Main | Extreme Makeover: Final Update »

MCXbox.gifBack in December, I noted that Update Rollup 1 for Media Center Extender devices (not Xbox) was available.  This update fixed some bugs and added support for playback of TV programs using the CGMS-A broadcast flag such as HBO (no, it's not MS technology but we have to honor it).

The good news is that as of yesterday, Media Center Extender for Xbox-customers can get an update to play back CGMS-A protected content.  The core update is available via Xbox Live for download , however viewing CGMS-A protected programs requires new Extender for Xbox discs. To obtain the new discs, click here (reg req'd).

Hi:
I tried to register to get the update, but failed with a product key verification error. I can provide detailed screengrabs of the pages if you can direct me to someone that might be interested. I already sent the information to 'mcefulfillment@interactservices.com'

Thank You!

Strange thing, I did my update via Xbox Live and now I cannot connect to my media center PC. I even tried adding a new extender through the Media Extender Manager and that did not work. It gets all the way to the Connecting phase and then halts. Is there a PC side update that we need as well? If so where do we get it? I checked ms.com and can't find anything there.

Sorry to post again so soon. I discovered the issus was with Microsoft's Antispyware Beta. I had read before that people had trouble with the combo but never had any negative results myself until this update. I uninstalled the software and then reinstalled the Extender update and everything is peachy now. I hope this helps anyone else that might run into issues.
